The Achenbach Foundation for Graphic Arts, a department of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, offers a fellowship and stipend to a graduate-level student enrolled in or graduated from an accredited college or university art history program.
The fellowship provides a year of specialized study and curatorial work with the largest prints and drawings collection in the western United States, including more than 90,000 works of art. The collection encompasses works of art on paper from the fifteenth century to the present day and includes prints, drawings, watercolors, artists’ books, and photography.
This position is open to Master’s Level and Doctoral Candidates in Art History. Offered every year, this fellowship is made possible by the Achenbach Graphic Arts Council (AGAC), the support group for the Achenbach Foundation. The fellowship has a stipend of $15,000 and lasts for one year.
Fellowship work under the direction of the department curators in such areas as:
- Investigation of specific areas or artists within the Achenbach
- Goal-directed research on specific topics;
- Preparation of research papers, essays, or catalogue notes
- Museum methodology and exhibition preparation.
