Ralph Eugene Meatyard: Dolls and Masks
Ralph Eugene Meatyard (1925–1972) is an enigmatic figure in American photography -- and one whose impact continues to grow. This Kentucky-based photographer created work rich in literary allusion and philosophical meaning. This exhibition provides a view into Meatyard's practice through a focus on dolls and masks, tropes to which Meatyard often returned, especially in his later career. Join a walk-through and discussion with Julian Cox, Founding Curator of Photography and Chief Curator of the de Young Museum. (Please note that this touring exhibition will be closing on February 26.)
