Elizabeth Opalenik and Mordancage Photography

Members were given the rare privilege to see Elizabeth Opalenik demonstrate the Mordancage technique. Mordancçge involves chemically altering and lifting the image off a silver gelatin print. Ms. Opalenik employs and supplements the Mordançage process with handpainting, toning, and other diverse transfer processes to create unique images that convey, in her words, “not only what is visible to the eye, but also sensed with the heart.”
