The Achenbach Graphics Arts Council (AGAC) was established in 1971. For more than four decades we have been providing essential support to the Achenbach Foundation for Graphic Arts (AFGA) and its rich collections of European, American, and Asian graphic art. AGAC’s members share a commitment to enhancing the Achenbach’s stature as an important cultural asset for the San Francisco region and beyond.
AGAC is a member-run organization, governed by a volunteer board of directors elected by the membership at an annual members meeting. Our main objective is to provide funding for projects and opportunities identified by the Achenbach curators, including artwork acquisitions, exhibition-related publications, event sponsorships, internships at the Achenbach, and more. Our annual membership fees are an important source of this funding, as are other donations. We also organize and sponsor a variety of educational and social events for our members, with opportunities varying by membership level.
From time to time, AGAC conducts fundraising campaigns for significant projects approved by the FAMSF’s board. In 2013-2014, AGAC completed an ambitious multi-year campaign establishing a $300,000 endowment that provides dedicated funding for the Achenbach’s postgraduate fellowships. In 2014-2015, we are pursuing a focused campaign to raise funds needed to preserve a group of rare photographic images held in the Achenbach’s collections.
